MERCANTA

www.mercanta.com PROTECTION AND COMFORT We introduce two new features for protective footwear, which increase both protection and comfort. The Boa® closure system allows for quick on and off convenience at the turn of a dial and the click of a button. The reel allows customers to dial in the perfect lace tension with no pressure points. Red Wing ForceShieldTM technology provides amazing metatarsal impact absorption. Made of a revolutionary thin, soft material, it offers flexible, comfortable metatarsal protection from dangerous workplace drop and impact hazards while meeting ASTM standards. Under normal conditions, its urethane molecules are at rest in the form of a flexible membrane. When impacted quickly at high stress rates, the molecules „freeze“ like water turning to ice to absorb and dissipate up to 90 % of the energy. Force from impact is dissipated. SIZES Throughout the world, three major standards are used for measuring the human foot: the European system, the US-system, and the British system. The chart below converts the European shoe sizes to US and British sizes. Additionally to the size or length of the footwear, most major manufacturers offer several widths for individual sizing. The most common widths are B, C, D, E, EE, whereas „AAA“ is extremely narrow and „EEE“ is very wide. The difference from one width to another is exactly 0,5cms, which allows for a perfect fit to every foot. Width „EE“ is standard for European sizes between 40 and 44 (US-size 7-10); for larger sizes „EEE“ should be chosen. For smaller sizes „E“ is usually chosen. For narrow feet, the width should be decreased by one letter (i.e.: „D“ instead of „E“), for flat feet it should be increased by one letter (i.e. „EEE“ instead of „EE“). For exact measurement, we offer a size measurement device that can be obtained upon request. In case a certain size/width is not available it can be substituted by means of increasing the size by one number and decreasing the width by one letter. This will result in the equivalent size (i.e.: if 8 EE is not available, substitute by 8,5 E). How to use the shoe size comparision chart: If a certain size or width is not available proceed as follows: Increase the desired length by a 1/2 point and decrease the width. Check if the alternative model is available and order accordingly. SELECTING THE CORRECT MATERIALS Selecting the correct materials is critical, especially when contaminants are present. By choosing the correct material the maximum lifespan of footwear can be achieved. • Nitrile rubber sole - for higher temperatures, oil and solvent resistant • Polyurethane soles - for general purpose use, oil and solvent resistant • Water repellant leather uppers - where there is an occasional exposure to water. • Micro-fibre uppers - where greater resistance to certain chemicals and oil is required. • PVC, PVC Nitrile, rubber and Polyurethane uppers - where there is long term exposure to water and certain chemical applications. • Cambrelle/Thinsulate/ Thermalite linings - for greater comfort and temperature control of feet. • Gore-tex, Sympatex and other waterproof membranes inside a leather upper - allow the feet to breath whilst offering complete protection from water penetration. In applications dealing with chemical hazards and heavy dirt protective footwear manufactured of rubber or PVC is recommended. As materials special rubber compounds, such as neoprene, natural rubber with nitrile and rubber/PVC mixtures and PVC only are used.
